Intaj Khan is a land-subdivision property developer and the former Chief Executive Officer of Western Institute of Technology Pty Ltd. Khan has also been Wyndham’s two-time running councillor. Putting aside his memorable achievements he is a very humble individual. From a very early age, Intaj had the responsibility of looking after his six younger siblings, in a small village called Sikri, District-Bharatpur in Rajasthan, India. He attended a public school and later went on to achieve a Diploma of Electrical Engineering from University, J.M.I, in New Delhi, India.

Intaj arrived in Australia with 400 dollars and big dreams. It is through his determination and passion that he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (B.Tech) from Central University of Queensland, Australia. However, the road to higher education for a struggling immigrant is not an easy one. The high tuition funds meant Intaj had to borrow money from relatives as well as taking on several part-time jobs to make ends meet. From baking cakes, to installing security alarm systems, and being a door-to-door salesman, Intaj has done it all.

The young entrepreneur moved to Melbourne and utilised his life savings to develop the Western Institute of Technology (WIT); an educational institute built on providing diplomas to local and international students in the Victoria state. The college gained national praise in its early years as one of BRW’s Top 100 fastest growing companies, in 2011 and 2012.

One of Intaj’s first and most notable investments was the purchase of Mowbray College. Although, he could not open a high school at the location, the property is a prime piece of Caroline Springs’ real estate; selling for 12 Million, leading to Intaj’s venture into the world of property investments.

The revenue from WIT combined with the profit of the Mowbray sale helped Intaj construct an extensive real estate property portfolio. The property enthusiast now owns a substantial amount of land across Melbourne, Rockback, Tarneit, Mount Cottrell and South Melbourne, to name a few. This led to the establishment of Countryland Australia Limited with the aim to help people achieve the security that comes with owning property. The company is currently on its first land subdivision project in Western Melbourne; called Mount Aliza Estate. The Mount Aliza Estate has an impressive 83 residential lots and over 5.1 hectares of active open space in Thornhill Park.

The businessman has also dipped his feet into politics and has been elected in the Victorian local government in both 2012 and 2016. Intaj is currently serving his second term making him the first South Asian councillor in the Wyndham City Council.  Khan is the Council’s Urban Futures Portfolio Holder, which covers liveability, housing, neighbourhood planning, urban design and long term financial planning. He is also the Deputy Chair for the Future Focused Economic Portfolio and for the Tourism and Major Events Portfolio.

Mr Intaj Khan now wants to give back to the community so he has established a scholarship in partnership with Latrobe University. The “Intaj khan Scholarship” aims to encourage and support females from disadvantaged homes from Western suburbs of Melbourne, in obtaining tertiary education, alleviating the burden of their struggles.
